“Spoon Theory” was developed in 2003 by Christine Miserandino to explain the fatigue associated with her chronic illness. Today, it is often used by Neurodivergent people to explain the mental fatigue caused by being a neurominority within a neurotypical majority.

This activity makes a great daily or weekly check-in for self reflection on personal energy levels, or “spoons.” Use this with students to help them understand how they are spending their energy, things they need to save their energy for, things that took a lot of energy recently, and strategies for getting energy back. This activity pairs well with NeuroWild’s “Teach Me About Spoon Theory” infographic.
